RenNRFC 60 - Old White 0
3rd Matrix Game
Reprinted from Goffonrugby.com
February
10, 2007 – A
week after suffering through a difficult
game where the bounces and their brains
didn't seem to go their way, Nashville
hammered Old White 60-0 to improve to
2-3 in South DI club play.
It was a bittersweet day for Nashville,
as two of their star performers played
their final game for the club. Center
Cayo Nicolau, who was capped by the
Eagles in 2003 will be returning to
his birthplace of Brazil, having failed
to secure a work visa. Nicolau was strong
at inside center, as usual, and contributed
two tries. Meanwhile outside center
Rob Haley scored four tries in his final
game before moving to California.
Pieter Van Uuren was outstanding at
flyhalf directing play thanks in large
part to an unmovable platform set by
the Nashville pack.
Nashville will hope that Dave Ellis
and Aaron Hice will be able to fill
in at center going forward, but Nashville
will be faced with some questions regarding
depth going forward.
Renegades
28 - NRFC 8
2nd Matrix Game
We traveled
with 19 players to play two games, one extra
forward & three backs. Play progressed
fairly well in the first half with Cayo
kicking a penalty & highlight, Pledger
throwing a nice dummy & scoring in the
corner. There were couple of defensive breakdowns
that let the Renegades score twice before
the break.
The second half didn't go so well with a questionable knock on that
went on to become a try for the Renegades. They went on to score
one more try to win the game 28 to 8.
Defensively we were more
organized & launched, but form was not
good. Tackling high & not dropping the
man to the ground allowed them to keep going
forward & start mauling which made it
difficult to stop. On offence we had some
good movement and at times looked threatening
out wide. Consequently, the ball still needs
to be moved faster through the hands. Old
White next week..
Life
32 - NRFC 22
1st Matrix Game
Saturday, January 27, 2007 - Vanderbilt
fields, Nashville
Close game
with Life putting up first score with penalty.
Forward pack was playing good ball and keeping
posssession. Backline defense was exceptional.
Half time score
was Nashville 8, LIFE 10
Second half, forwards again
showed their dominance and ran up a lead
to 22-10. Then, poor fitness reared its
ugly head and Life's backs spread the ball
wide for easy scores. That was that...
Full
time score was Nashville 22, LIFE 32
